ImpActaKids Inaugurates “George Bell” Stadium in Santa Fe
SANTA FE, SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS – The ImpActaKids Foundation inaugurated a Little League stadium in this municipality and during the event, they honored former Major Leaguer George Bell and other local personalities.
Bell, a native of this town, was the first Dominican to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in Major League Baseball in 1987 with the Toronto Blue Jays of the American League.
Manny Acta, president of the foundation, expressed his happiness, stating that, along with those who support him within the organization, they have made the dream of providing facilities for hundreds of children who will benefit from the sports venue a reality.
“This is a way to give back for the healthy childhood we had in this community. We have never seen contributing to the children and youth of our community as an option, but as a commitment,” said the two-time Major League manager.
He noted that naming the stadium after Bell is a source of pride because Bell not only elevated the name of the Dominican Republic but also that of the province, and especially their hometown.
“George has been a man of impeccable conduct. An inspiration to those who followed his career and saw him as an idol. Today, we believe we are right in recognizing him as a great player and good citizen,” added Acta in his keynote speech during the event, which was attended by dozens of children and community guests.
Bell’s Gratitude
“I am happy to be honored in my hometown, especially to be recognized by a brother and longtime friend,” said Bell, referring to Acta, who spent part of his childhood here.
The Dominican sports legend assured the community that he has always been and will always be available whenever needed.
Carlos Dijols
Carlos Dijols, a representative of Friends of San Fe, thanked the ImpActaKids Foundation for the gesture and stated that the community will always carry the children with good behavior in their hearts.
During the event, Eddy Thomas and Germán Martínez were also honored, with their names given to the two dugouts. There was also a special mention of Antonio Pericles (Tibolé), whose name was given to the playing field. Thomas was represented by his son, who shares his name.
